Biography:

Martin was born and brought up in Cheltenham and lives there with his young family.

He worked as Head of Consultancy for a local marketing services firm with mainly national charity clients. Before this, he was Director of Fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society, the UK's leading care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers.

Previously he was a fundraising manager with Oxfam, based in Oxford and New Delhi.

Martin's political experience includes the Presidency of the Oxford Student Liberal Society (1983) and the Chair of the Liberal Party's national student wing, the Union of Liberal Students (1985-86). Between 1991 and 1995 he was a district councillor on Oxfordshire's Vale of White Horse council becoming environment spokesperson and then Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat group.

Martin is married to Dr Shona Arora, director of public health for the Cheltenham & Tewkesbury Primary Care Trust. They have two children.
